Radio Connection

"Serial Port" should be set to SLAB_USBtoUART. Do not use the selection with numbers after it. That one may appear to work but it is not the correct option. If you do not see this option then you may not have the correct driver installed. If you do have the correct driver installed, be sure that you are using a proper USB cable directly from the radio to your computer. If the cable is known to be good, try powering off and on your radio. If that doesn't work, you can quit and reopen Cockpit. If that doesn't work, you can try rebooting your computer.

"Baud Rate" should be set to 38400 and your radio should be set to 38400 by default. If you have changed it, the baud rate is set in the radio's settings menu under OPERATION SETTING → GENERAL → CAT RATE.

Once you have those selected, the Connect button should become clickable. Click it and then WAIT... Cockpit will set itself up by reading the radio's many settings and memories. This may take about 10 seconds, after which the app will automatically switch to the Cockpit panel.

Auto Memories

The "Auto Memories" panel keeps track of frequencies that you've stopped at for a period of time and which have a signal strength that exceeds the "squelch" signal level you have set using the slider. Cockpit will remember the squelch level you set the next time you run the app.

The list is ordered by the most recent active frequencies you have stopped on for a period of time. If you are in a hurry you can click the "Add Now" button at the bottom to immediately log that frequency. You can also make any notes you like about the frequency.

The Auto Memories feature is a bit like the QMB feature on the radio except that the frequencies are saved automatically and you are not limited to the 5 or 10 that the radio allows. You can individually delete frequencies from the list or delete all of them with one click. Click the "Tune" button to quickly tune to that frequency and mode.

Auto Memories are not saved or recalled when restarting the app. They are meant to be a sort of scratch pad for that radio session.

Settings

Settings Panel

Hover over any setting with your cursor to see a popup description of that setting.

All settings are read from the radio automatically after you connect to it. Changes you make in the app are automatically applied to the radio.

There should not ever be a need to hit the Read button unless you make settings changes on the radio itself. This is because the radio does not broadcast settings changes when they are made on the radio.

If you have made changes to settings on your radio itself, you can click the Read button to notify the app of those changes.
